Announcement:
Just a reminder that we will be having our last UGRB meeting of the semester this Wednesday, November 19 at 5pm in MSC 4102. We will be having 2 professors come to talk about their research! Hope to see everyone there!
UGRB is the Undergraduate Research Board for students interested in promoting Undergraduate Research. The board is officially recognized by USF as a student group and participates in many on-campus events such as orientation. They also take exploratory trips to community institutions conducting research. Meetings are now on Wednesdays at 5pm. UGRB Officer Biographies
President
Jenny Greene is currently a junior majoring in Psychology and History. Her freshman year, she worked in Dr. Marc Karver's lab, where they are currently implementing a suicide prevention program in New Mexico. Starting her sophomore year, Jenny works in the Mood and Emotion Lab under Dr. Jon Rottenberg. She is currently screening participants for research studies in the lab as well as running participants in Dr. Salomon's lab. Her career goals include going to graduate school for psychology and becoming a professor/researcher.
Vice President
Tahseen Ismail is a sophomore at USF, majoring in Bio- Medical Sciences and International Studies. In her freshman year, she did research with the school of social work, focusing on social capital and positive youth development, which she presented at NCUR 08 and has published. She has participated in the 2008 SPARK program at the Moffitt Cancer Center and currently, her research is with an Immunology lab at the center.
Treasurer
Peter Kirby is a sophomore at USF, majoring in Physics. Peter hopes to participate in undergraduate research related to his major in the near future. After earning his bachelors degree, Peter intends to go to graduate school to continue his studies, earn his Ph.D., and work in the field of theoretical Physics.
Historian
Wai Wai Lwin is a sophomore at USF, majoring in Biomedical Sciences. She participated in SPARK internship at Moffitt Cancer Center. She is currently working at the neurostructure lab to study neurons and their synapses.
Historian
Daniel Wang is a freshman at USF who is right now undecided. He has worked in synthesizing a JAK2 inhibitor to inhibit one of the pathways of chronic myelogenous leukemia as a HARP student. HARP is a program in its first year for high schoolers to get involved in research. Currently he is working at the Moffitt Caner Center on the effects of histone deacetylase inhibitors on specific cytokines. He hopes to gain a better grasp of the research process during his time at USF and hopefully find a dicipline to major in.
Secretary
Aisha Howard is a junior at USF, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Philosophy. She is currently working in the Mood and Emotion Lab under Dr. Jon Rottenberg. Her responsibilities include screening potential participants, coding and entering data, and running physio sessions with participants in Dr. Salomon's lab. After graduation she plans on continuing in graduate school for psychology research. Her interests in the field include mood and personality disorders, as well as the neurology associated with various disorders.
Public Relations
Shirley Ruttell is a freshman at USF, majoring in Biology/ with pre-dental. As the public relations officer she looks forward to using all forms of media and communication to build, maintain and manage the reputation of the Undergraduate Research Board organization. She looks forward to a great year of success and can't wait to let the stampede begin.
