Geology / Environmental Science and Policy
The Paleoenvironments Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) focuses on reconstructing dynamics, including paleobiologic, paleoclimatic, and paleoceanographic aspects, of Plio-Pleistocene paleoenvironments recorded in Florida’s exceptional stratal and fossil record. This project was intiated during the summer of 2005 and is funded for two additional years. Twelve juniors or advanced sophomores will be chosen by April 1, 2006 to participate in the Summer ’06 program. Students are encouraged to formulate their own research questions within the overall research program, develop their project, and complete their research during an eight-week program at various field localities in Florida and in USF laboratories. After the summer field and laboratory work, projects are to be completed at the students' home institution during the following academic year. The expectation is that all projects will be presented at the Southeastern Section of the Geological Society of America Meeting the following Spring.
