Workshops
In order to facilitate the research experience for UR USF Undergraduate Research Scholars, the Office of Undergraduate Research provides a series of ongoing workshops in the fall and spring academic terms. These workshops, hosted by faculty and staff in a range of disciplines, including Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, English, Government and International Affairs, and Library Science, are designed to address the practical needs of undergraduate researchers in the natural, social, and health sciences as well as the humanities.
Workshop themes include how to navigate the USF Library Website and databases, how to build a bibliography and avoid plagiarism, how to approach ethical questions associated with liberal arts research, how to write an abstract, how to craft an effective oral presentation or conference paper, and how to design and present a poster. In the future, the Office of Undergraduate Research plans to provide a new workshop on how to create a research budget.
UR USF Workshops are particularly beneficial to undergraduate researchers who plan to participate in the annual spring research symposium, to present research at a national conference, or to apply to graduate school. Students who plan to apply for research grants are strongly encouraged to attend the workshops in order to receive assistance with the grant application process and to enhance their overall research training.
UR USF Undergraduate Research Scholars who attend UR Workshops will be awarded a certificate that affirms their participation and identifies the areas in which they received special instruction. Students who earn a UR USF Workshop Certificate are encouraged to include this item on their curriculum vitae.
